In Yu-Gi-Oh!, the “08 Meta” (the competitive environment of 2008) refers to 【Zombie World】—a Field Spell of the same name that debuted in the Structure Deck “－Zombie World－,” released in June 2008—as well as the control and meta decks built around it. With the introduction of this card, the traditional 【Undead】 deck—which primarily utilized the Graveyard—gained a powerful element of tribe manipulation as a countermeasure. Effects and Role in the “08 Meta” The Field Spell 《Zombie World》 has the following powerful effects: Turns all monsters on the field and in the Graveyard into “Undead-Type” Prevents both players from performing “Advanced Summons” of non-Undead-Type monsters A powerful counter to other meta decks (opponents it counters) It dealt a major blow to the top meta decks of the time, such as 【Emperor Control】 and 【Lightroad】.
